Conservation Detection Dogs
Sara at HUND works as a conservation detection dog handler, helping advance research through modern dog detection techniques with her two highly trained detection dogs Emma and Wren
Emma
Emma is a 8 year old boxer, lab, apbt mix who Sara picked up off the freeway in Florida after Emma was pushed out of a vehicle. After years of endless love, snuggles, and treats, Emma found her dream job as a conservation detection dog.
Emma's current work focuses on bird and bat fatalities at a wind farm in California. Emma is a slow but methodical searcher, finding samples as small as 0.5cm. Emma's favorite thing in the world is snacks and cuddles, both of which she gets loads of after every find.

Wren
Wren is the newest addition to the team, a working line border collie who Sara adopted in 2024, Wren was selected not only due to her extremely high drive and intelligence, but also because of her sweet and loving nature towards people.
Wren is also working on a wind farm in California and is a fast, driven, and methodical searcher. Her favorite thing in the world is her frisbee, which she gets every time she makes one of her spectacular finds.

Sara
Sara is the human part of the conservation dog equation. Her current job is to train and escort her two fantastic conservation dogs to their jobs and help them conduct effective and efficient searches as well as collecting, storing, and processing all data samples.
Sara has an academic and working background in field biology spanning 6 countries and multiple states in the United States. Sara became passionate about dogs' roles in conservation in 2021 and has dedicated herself to the profession ever since.
Sara's favorite thing in the world is traveling and exploring with her three dogs, Emma, Wren, and her very first dog Lily (pictured here) who is retired service and therapy dog.
